Notes

She was the niece of Commodore Christian ('HMS Owen Glendower', a 42 gun frigate) who, together with Commodore Joseph Nourse, had been sent out to the Cape to intercept the slave traders in South African waters in the early 1800's.  One anecdotal version of their arrival in South Africa claims they were so impressed by the country they decided to settle there.
She was second cousin to Fletcher Christian of 'HMS Bounty' mutiny.
