Notes

He was the brother of Commodore Joseph Nourse ('HMS Andromache') and, together with Miles Brooker, was responsible for the development of Port Francis (Eastern Cape, South Africa) , now Port Alfred, as a harbour from which to export East Cape beef to London.  Records show that he was trading in this area of the Cape as early as 1809.
