Thanks for your reply.
My original "Australian" ancestor arrived here in 1813 courtesy of a convict ship. A little different from the circumstances of the Edmonds family I think!! My line working down from the Robins(as I have it) is as follows:

Christopher Edmonds & Peggy Larrat Robins married 30.12.1815 St Mary's, Newington, Surrey. Known children Margaret, Christopher, Maria, Ellen, Alfred, Caroline, Edward and Fanny. It is possible that Christopher Edmonds Sn. was an architect. Caroline Juliet Edmonds married Stephen Rowland on 04.05.1852 at St Mary's Newington. Stephen Rowland was born in 1825 in Ramsbury, Wiltshire, the son of a solicitor. On the various census etc Stephen is listed as a farmer in Wiltshire or Surrey - large acreage and employing numerous men and boys. They had 11 children the 7th Charles John Rowland was my great grandfather. He was born in in 1860 in Coulsden, Surrey and arrived in Australia in 1883. He married Blanche Watson in Sydney in 1891 and returned to England in 1892 where they remained until 1908. My grandmother Blanche Esther was born in Sydney in 1892 and travelled to England as a baby. Stephen Rowland died at Croydon in 1893 and Caroline Juliet at Croydon in 1897. My great grandfather and his family of 5 children returned to Australia in 1908 and settled in S.E. Queensland where they purchased farming land. Blanche Sn. died in 1918 and Charles Rowland in 1926. My grandmother Blanche married Ralph Mc Phee in 1925 and had four sons, my father Kevin the youngest, born in 1932. He married Margaret Stewart Craig in 1956 at Toowoomba, Australia and I was born there in 1960.

So that's my descent. In the past I have had a quick search for the Robins and Edmonds on the IGI but never turned anything up - my next step was to order the 1851 census as it appears they were living near St Mary's, Newington at that time. I had noticed that Christopher Edmonds was mentioned on his daughter's marriage certificate so I assumed he was still alive in 1852.
