Star Orchid and related

to Orchids
This group consists of four closely related orchids. T. stellata,
T. aff stellata, T. jacksonii and T. dedmaniarum. The first three species
are similar and differ mainly in flower size and flowing period. None of the
species featured here are very widespread.
Note: Thelymitra aff stellata has been given an official name - Thelymitra
magnifica
An interesting note is that I checked T .magnifica (Crystal Brook) at about
11.30 at night and found the flowers open!

T. magnifica (Crystal Brook Star) differs from T stellata
by having larger flowers (4-5cm vs 2-4cm) and a flowering period 2-3
weeks earlier. T. jacksonii has large flowers (5-6cm) and an even later
flowering period around late November to December.
T. dedmaniarum has lighter flowers and a consistant light stripe on each petal and sepal. |
