Pterostylis - Greenhoods
Back to Orchids
Pterostylis - The Greenhoods - are a genus of mainly green
coloured orchids with united dorsal sepal and petals forming the 'hood.' There
are several distinct complexes, those with the sepals 'ears' pointing up (shell,
snail) or hanging down (banded, rufa, sargentii.) P. recurva is distinct in
itself. Greenhoods can be found over most of the south west of Western Australia,
both in the high rainfall areas of the lower south west and the more arid
interior.
