Insane Excel

There are plenty of sites offering how-tos for conventional Excel spreadsheets. But if you love Excel, and particularly VBA, you will want to extend it. I have set out to show that good as it, Excel can be extended to be insanely great (to borrow from Steve Jobs).

New in July 20003:

  • Embedding binary data in Excel
  • Add a digital signature to Excel workbooks (better than the standard Excel approach)
  • Get around the pesky Outlook popup that asks permission to use address lists
  • Sections

  • Encryption & security (updated July 2003)
  • Web (updated July 2003)
  • Compression (updated July 2003)
  • Pretty stuff (updated March 2003)
  • Artificial Intelligence
  • (updated November 2001)
  • Other
  • (updated March 2003)

Please let me add that I don't claim to understand any technicalities outside of Excel itself - much of the hard work was done by others and shared on the net. My contribution was to convert it to Excel. I hope I have adequately acknowledged the work of others.

    Please note
    1. The design of this page is simple (written in Notepad) - Excel does all the talking.
    2. I don't pretend any of these examples are the ultimate in programming technique - I am interested in how to do these difficult things in the first place - you are welcome to do the housekeeping.
    3. If you are interested in any of this stuff, improve it, or know of better stuff, I'd like to hear from you!
